This party can be for children or adults and pretty much works the same way. INVITATIONSS: We deliver invitations by hand. They are Santa faces with the information written or printed out on the beard. Adorable! The party is a traditional sleepover with a holiday twist. ACTIVITIES: As guests are arriving, we provide a simple holiday craft for early arrivers. This year, we are using a 3-D Santa Sticker craft from Oriental Trading Company. In years past, we've done cone-shaped styrofoam macaroni trees (glue elbow macaroni all over cone, paint it all gold when dry), reindeer handprints (paint guests' hands brown, print on white paper, fingers up, forming reindeer antlers, decorate with red pompom nose, google eyes, etc.). DINNER: We swap the traditional sleepover pizza for some holiday favorite appetizers like pretzel chicken dippers, holiday layereddip with wheat thins, and peppermint hot chocolate. To make pretzel chicken, crush your favorite salty pretzels into a small uniform crush. Mix prepared honey mustard with a touch of cayenne pepper (optional to taste). Cut raw chicken tenderloins into one inch pieces. Dip each into the mustard mixture, then roll in pretzels to evenly coat. Bake for 10 minutes on 350 degrees. For holiday layered dip, soften 8 oz. cream cheese to spreadable consistency. Mix with 1 c. sharp finely shreeded cheddar cheese and 1/2 c. finely chopped pecans. Spread mixture in a serving dish about 1/2 inch thick. Top with Palmalito red pepper jelly (medium heat), or your favorite pepper jelly. Serve with Wheat Thins. Peppermint Hot Chocolate is a breeze. Use instant hot chocolate, add a drop of peppermint extract to each cup, top with Reddi Whip and crushed candy canes. GAMES: After dinner, it's time for some games. 1. We like Christmas Charades, just old-fashioned charades, but only Christmas themes. 2. We also do a gingerbread house race. Using store-bought kits, we divide into teams and assemble and decorate the houses. The fastest team is the winner. 3. Our favorite family game is pitcionary, so we play with home-made Christmas clues in the regular categories. Depending on the number of guests you invite, you can set up three game stations, to divide guests into managable numbers. PARTY SNACKS: Assuming the kitchen gets cleaned up during game time, guests can decorate their own sugar cookies for later. I buy place and bake, but you can make your own dough if you're an over-achiever. We each take one cookie, decorate with with sprinkles, etc. and I bake them while we watch the movies. Next it's time for Christmas movies. We stick with the oldies, Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Rudolph, Frosty, The Drummer Boy, etc. We never miss the new classic, though...The Christmas Story. During that one we play, who can say the next line with the movie"! We're all winners. During the movies we serve popcorn and cookies we baked earlier. Bedtime! Get in jammies settle the sleeping bags and listen to some smooth jazz versions of carols to get sleepy. You might even have a story read. We like Santa Mouse. It's ann old one that adults will remember from childhood but probably haven't heard since and that youngsters will be thrilled with as a new Christmas story. In the morning we serve breakfast in jammies. We like the new shakeable pancakes but have served waffles muffins doughnuts etc. We just go for something fast and easy adding fruit milk and juice. Pick up should be around 9am as the guests wake up early. FAVORS: The party favor of choice is CDs of all the party pictures set to holiday music. I make these after everyone has gone to sleep. I use Windows Movie Maker because it's super easy and fast. You use what you know even if it's only the photos burned to CDs. Every guest will have a memory of the party along with their craft to take home and use to decorate."
