For our family's Christmas get-together, we always draw names and last year I got my brother's name. We've all heard of the idea of wrapping a small gift, then putting it in a slightly bigger box and wrapping it, then putting it in an even bigger box, wrapping it, etc...   Last year, I was kinda' considering doing that and got the idea to go ahead, but with each bigger package, tag it with a different person's name and include a little rhyme about how it's not really their's and who they need to pass it to. For example, the first one to open it was one of our adult children who was engaged. (Married now.) The "tag" read: "(Please read aloud) This may be a shock, but this gift isn't for you, but there is one more thing for you to do.  Please pass this along, in a well-mannered way to that lovely young lady you call your fiance."  He handed it to her, she opened it and her tag read: "(Please read aloud) Oh, no! Oh, no! This is a flaw!  This actually goes to your future sister-in-law." So this went on through all 10 people, with the package getting smaller and smaller and the anticipation growing, waiting to find out who the REAL recipient was. But I didn't let that 11th person (my brother) off that easy.  I sent him on a short hunt. I hid notes around the house with a rhyme about where he needed to go next to find his gift, only to find another rhyme.  The whole thing took about ten minutes and everyone was laughing and walking through the house with my brother while he was on his hunt.  Just a couple of helpful hints: Be sure to include the '(Please read aloud)' notation. This should be obvious, but don't include children.  They just may not understand that they have to give up a gift.  My "tags" were actually half sheets of paper, printed on the computer in large font with a little clip art to make them attractive. The jokester in me could not resist one thing I did.  For the ten people who were not the recipient, I attached a chip clip at the bottom of their "tag".  Under their rhyne I put in smaller but still legible font: "But here's a nice consolation prize.  Thanks for playing."  Oh, and one last thing - start on this as early as you can.  You'll be surprised how long it takes to find all those different sized packages and come up with all those rhymes.  In all honesty, the hardest part was keeping this a secret from the other four family members in my house!  But it was worth the work!  Everyone had a blast!
