My daughter is turning three on December 13. We will have her party on the evening of her birthday. I will read "The Night Tree" by Eve Bunting. It is about a family who celebrates Christmas each year by decorating a tree in the woods for the animals to feast on. After reading the book, we'll make pine cone bird feeders, string apples and other fruit, and make a few other animal-friendly crafts. Next, we'll all bundle up and head outdoors (seven kids, two sets of grandparents and several aunts and uncles) for a short walk to a park at the end of our street. As we decorate the tree for the animals, we'll think about the season and how special our new tradition is.
