For my daughter's 6th birthday I was planning to have a Gingerbread House Party. Her birthday is on Christmas Eve, so I thought it would be a fitting theme. I would have each child design their own gingerbread house and decorate it with candy and cookies that would be in bowls down the middle of a couple of long tables. I would prepare for the activity by foiling cardboard squares for them to do their gingerbread house on. I was thinking of either letting them build their own gingerbread house using graham crackers and frosting or for the younger ones, I could construct the house ahead of time and just let them decorate it. I would take a picture of each guest with their finished gingerbread house. I also bought a bunch of gingerbread shaped wooden ornaments at Michael's and would have the kids decorate their own ornament. Other ideas I had include having them decorate their own gingerbread cookies, and a scavenger hunt to look for hidden gingerbread men in the backyard. I was also thinking of having my daughter wear an apron with gingerbread kids on it and each guest could sign their name on one of the gingerbread kids. We could also "personalize" each gingerbread kid by adding hair/glasses/freckles with puffy paint. Each guest would be able to take home a gingerbread house, an ornament, and some cookies to enjoy. Recipe cards would be ideal to use as invitations. These crafts type activities are great for a party with a variety of ages.
