We did this last year for my daughter's 4th birthday party. I was lucky to use our neighborhood clubhouse for the party. The management was already going to decorate the hall for Christmas time so I was able to use their decorations but put them where I wanted. I invited my daughter's whole preschool class and their siblings so it was a pretty big party. I had 1 table set up with cut out black and white circles, blue paper and glue sticks and they made polar bears. Another table I took several layers of the basic white paper plates, hole punched around the edges, and laced through the holes with ribbon. Then we used markers and stickers to make Santa's cookie plates. Another table had foam stickers, pipe cleaners, markers, foam sheets and they made name plaque ornaments. The last craft table had green paper with a large Christmas tree. I supplied glue sticks, markers, tiny sticky bows, stickers, and various small pieces of paper and they decorated their trees. I even took a piece of wired ribbon that had foil Christmas light shapes, snow flakes, and candy canes and cut them off the wire to use as decorations. You can find these at the dollar store. Then I put 2 tables together with 3 handmade batches of play dough and a huge bucket of plastic cookie cutters, rollers, plastic knives, etc. The other side of the hall I removed all the tables and set up play tents, tunnels, large box of cars, big box of large legos, stuff animals, and a variety of toys appropriate for infant to age 7. I had the stage area set up with a Christmas tress, a small couch and several wood cut outs (that I made for my yard) of penguins wearing snow hats. Later a friend from lodge came in his Santa suit. He does Santa professionally and my daughter knows him as Santa Harvey. I had a big bag of goodies for him to pass out to each child. The goodies were Christmas cellophane bags filled with dollar tree toys and candy canes. It was so cute because as soon as the kids saw Santa they just immediately lined up next to the stage. We didn't have to coax them at all! I had warned the parents ahead of time that Santa was coming and to bring their cameras. Several moms later told me they used the picture they took at my daughter's birthday as their main Christmas picture for the year. After Santa in another area we had cupcakes and ice cream on snow flaked themed plates, napkins, and cups. I had juice for the kids, and coffee and ice and hot tea for the adults. After that we opened presents and the children played some more. Believe it or not this whole party cost me about $65 because I used many of the things I already had collected: Christmas decorations, school supplies (glue sticks, markers, paper), cookie cutters, flour and food coloring to make play dough, toys and tunnels. Of course I purchased the stuff for the cupcakes, ice cream, beverages but the rest of the tableware, table cloths, stickers, foam crafts, pipe cleaners, and goody bags all came from the dollar store. It was amazing how well everything went. The adults had just as much fun as the kids and they made just as many crafts as the children! I am already getting asked by the moms if I am going to do the same thing this year because they want to come!
