For my daughter's 5th birthday which is December 10, we had a Holiday Tea Party. I first decorated my home for Christmas with special emphasis on gingerbread houses. I found Christmas coffee cups and saucers, a cookie jar that was a large decorated Christmas tree and also a creamer that was a minature Christmas tree and an actual sugar "jar" that was a ceramic present. All of the girls came dressed in their holiday best. When they arrived they placed the birthday presents under the Christmas tree and then went in to the dining room where lots of assorted candies and their pre-made gingerbread house was waiting for decoration. I didn't want the girls to ruin their holiday dresses so I made each girl a Christmas apron. I simply took snowflake stamps,(assorted sizes) white paint and glitter. I purchased red children's craft aprons at a craft store, stamped on the snowflakes and sprinkled with glitter. I then took a puffy paint pen and wrote each girls names on their apron). Each premade house(graham crackers hot glued for durability) was sitting on a heavy duty paper plate. This worked out really well to prevent all of the candies and sprinkles from going everywhere as well as helped in transporting their creations home at the end of the party. After the girls decorated their houses it was time for the tea party. Each chair was tied with green tuille and the birthday girl sat at the head of the table. At each place setting was the Christmas cup and saucer and a holiday cracker. Their tea was lemonade. I made pretzel sticks rolled in white chocolate and crushed candy canes, santa cookies ( nutter butter cookies with each end dipped in white icing; one end sprinkled with red sprinkles ( his hat) the other end in coconut ( his beard) two mini chocolate chips for eyes and a red hot for a nose... star sandwiches (star shaped cookie cutter and ham and cheese) rice krispie treat presents ( tie red string licorice around each square of rice krispie treat) and birthday cake. I made a three layer red velvet cake and iced with white icing. I then took fondant and died it Christmas green and rolled out a table "topper". This topper was placed on top of the three layer cake and then a miniature Christmas tea pot and two cups and saucers were placed on the "table". ( I found a miniature set with poinsettia on it and gave it to my daughter as an early birthday present as well as a keepsake from her tea party.) After the girls enjoyed all of the treats and we had cake we moved to the living room and opened her presents. Just as the last present was opened, a special guest arrived. Santa Claus made a surprise visit!! The girls were completely dumbfounded as Santa walked in. He sat in a chair , talked to all of the girls, shared a few magic tricks and read "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Each child then took turns sitting on his lap and sharing their Christmas wish list as I took pictures of them. ( My son joined in and the picture of he and his sister sitting on Santa's lap also became this year's Christmas Card.) After an hour, Santa left and each girl received her Christmas tea cup and saucer filled with Christmas candy pops that I made and wrapped in the green tuille that had been around each chairback. They also took home their gingerbread homes. It made a lovely gift for each child. The girls had a great time decorating their gingerbread homes and I will never forget my daughter's face as Santa came to her birthday. :) It was so much fun, we have decided to have a holiday tea party every year.
