My second son was born around Easter, so for his first birthday we celebrated with the Easter Bunny theme. The party was pretty simply what anyone could imagine an Easter themed party might be -- Easter Egg hunt, coloring eggs, etc. But what I would really like to share is how I made his invitations and cake -- They were adorable! For his invitations, I drew two egg shapes. On the first(which would be the front), I wrote, "Some bunny's turning one year old!" On the second(which would be the back), I wrote out the party details. I had these copied on cardstock and cut the eggs out. I, then, cut each egg in half in a zigzag pattern. I glued each front half to its back half counterpart around the edges so it made a pocket. I cut out bunny head shapes from white paper that would fit within the egg pocket. I glued pictures of my son's face(printed off the computer) on to the front of the bunny head, and fastened accordion-folded strips of paper to the back. The ends of the strips were then attached to the inside pockets of the top and bottom parts of the eggs so that when the top and bottom of the eggs were together, the bunny was hidden inside. When you pulled the bottom and top apart, the bunny popped out. For his birthday cake, I used Wilton's 3-D stand-up teddy bear cake pan and added bunny ears by cutting ears from poster board and sticking them into the top of the bear's ears. I decorated it with icing to look like a bunny, including covering the poster board ears with icing so it looked like part of the cake. I placed the cake in the middle of a large round plate and surrounded it with Easter egg cakes made with Wilton's Easter egg cake tin. I used coconut tinted green to cover the bare spots on the plate. I wrote "Happy Birthday, _______" on the Easter egg cakes(one word per cake). I also made extra egg cakes for the kids to decorate themselves.
