For my daughter's 2-yr-old birthday party I wanted to have an Easter egg hunt, but did not want to fill the eggs with candy. Any toys I put in the eggs, though, would be choking hazards. So, I made felt boards out of a soft board found at a craft store. I glued blue fabric for the sky and used green fabric for the garden. I used a childrens' garden book to trace a pattern onto tracing paper and cut out flowers and animals from felt. I added light-weight extras to the cut-outs (i.e., elastic thread for antennas). We served a Sunday brunch, had the Easter bunny come and gave everyone Easter baskets when they arrived to hunt in the yard for the felt filled eggs. They all went home with a felt board and several flowers and bugs to put in their felt garden.
