We had a New Year's Party that was a Retro Prom party. Guests were asked to dress in prom gear from the 40s to the 90s or come as the coach, cafeteria lady, teacher, etc.  The prom name was "At the Stroke of Midnight" and the high school name was Rydell High School (from Grease).   We had a balloon arch outside that guests walked under and a sign that lighted up and said "Rydell High School".  The basement was set-up like a high school gym.  As you came down the stairs we had signs saying:  "Track practice at 3:30 in the gym" "Cheerleading Try-outs 4:00" etc.   The "gym" had a whole row of lockers made out of huge sheets of paper (my brother-in-law is a great artist). The lockers were open and closed, had locks on them, bras hanging out of them, empty beer bottles, books, papers, etc., all drawn. We had another sign that was lighted up behind the bar that said "At the Stroke of Midnight Prom."  We also made a basketball key out of white tape and set-up a nerf hoop.   We had gym and prom rules hung up, and people added to them all night. On the door to the garage there was a sign saying "Faculty Lounge" where people were allowed to smoke. We also had tons of balloons, disco ball, 40s-90s music and New Years decorations to add to the prom and party theme.   Everyone got into their costumes and we had all eras represented. I personally got an awful pink 80's dress and my husband went totally 70s. It was an amazing party, and we are already planning this year's.  In addition, we were picked to have a radio station crash our party.  They broadcasted live!
