Happy May Day Mother's Day Celebration!  This year, we decided to host a May Day Mother's Day Celebration!  I remember having May Day events in grade school and thought it would be great to plan a party just for the fun of it! And with Mother's Day right around the corner, it seemed the perfect time to celebrate the two together.    I enlisted the help of my two little girls and my husband to plan the event.  We invited an intimate group of family and close friends to attend the party. For invitations, I found the most adorable fairy/butterfly/flower invites that perfectly complimented the theme -  I purchased them at Target - they were marked down to a quarter!  Also for a quarter, they had the matching plates, sacks, and cups. I purchased these as well. Everyone was excited to come to the event. We decided on fair food. It was simple - a hotdog/sausage bar with all the condiments, corndogs on sticks, french fries, and roasted peanuts. I had one of those old-time looking popcorn poppers that we used to keep popcorn popping!  We served ice-cold lemonade and Dumser's cones for dessert. We decorated our deck to fit the theme and it was adorable! The deck umbrella was transformed into the May Pole. We used crepe paper streamers in bright colors to decorate it. We used the sacks, lots of flowers, and some butterflies that my girls had to decorate the deck.  It was festive and fun! My husband created the "easy" fair games.  We set up the kids' basketball hoop for one game and he created a knock-down game with some soda bottles we had saved for another. My girls set up the ducky pond - it too was fun.  We made bright festive signs for the games. And we created a big butterfly out of posterboard that welcomed our guests to the May Day Mother's Day Celebration!  We also had a special craft for the mothers. We found the most precious flower-making kits at a dollar store. I also picked up some small plastic planters to put our craft flowers in.  Everyone created a planter full of flowers - they turned out very cute and were a nice little keepsake from the day. Everyone enjoyed the May Day party!  It was a perfect way to get everyone together to celebrate Spring and Mother's Day too! Enjoy!
