My daughter's birthday is March 17. This year we decided to have a "Good Luck Party". I made her a 4 leaf clover cake (just take the same size heart pan and make 3 or 4 different leafs. After all the leafs are baked, put together and frost with green icing. To add a different effect outline the cake with Green M&M's or another green candy. This is also good if your child can not decide on what kids of cake they want. We had 4 differnt cakes). I had found little pots that I made into "goodie pots" (I filled the pots with green paper and then the chocolate gold coins. I also put in green pecnils and stickers). We decorated the whole house in green, shamrocks, pots of gold and rainbows. For an activity we made Rainbow Mobiles, this was very easy and the kids had something to take home and hang up. (to make mobiles get paper plates (these have to be PAPER) and cut in half. Have the kids paint or color (with markers or crayons) a rainbow on the plate. After rainbow is finished hole punch 3 holes, 2 on bottom and one on top. Get some green yarn and attach to mobile. Then have the kids add a pot of gold and a shamrock to their rainbow (I made the shamrocks and pots of gold ahead of time so there would be no cut fingers). Add green yarn to top hole. I made one in advance so the kids could see what they were going to look like. After all the kids had RSVPed I made 4 leaf clover name tags out of home made play dough (I made the dough and dyed it green. Then added a pin on the back. As the children arrived, I got their names and wrote it on their pin. Be sure to get last names too and add an O' to it, this way everyone has an Irish name for the day). We also had little games for the kids as well. We played "Pin the stem on the Shamrock", "Where is the Golden Rock", and "Leapercaun Says". All the winners got little prizes, anything green will work. My daughter had a great time and now doesn't hate having her birthday on St. Patrick's Day. One more thought, if you are going to have a St. Patrick's day party be sure to shop early for your needs. Many stores will have all the St. Paddy's Day stuff out by Valentine's Day, and many stores do not have alot stuff for this holiday.
