St. Patrick's Day Party: This was so much fun last year we're having a hard time figuring out how to top it this year. This was a party for both adults and children. Of course, everyone had to wear green. Each person was given a shamrock-shaped nametag with their "Irish" name for the evening. We had a "Patty O'Furniture", "P. Ann O'Lesson", "Ben O'Dryl", "Henny O'Hooligan", "Kelly Green", etc. (these were a hoot to make up!) We prepared all green food (lots of raw veggies, green mac 'n cheese, grapes, green soda). We found edible green food spray and painted stenciled shamrocks on hamburger buns and turned the potato chips green! We had the children make a giant rainbow out of small squares of colored tissue paper wrapped around pencils then glued to a cardboard cutout. When they finished it we hung it on a wall with a pot of gold chocolate coins situated just below the rainbow. Next we split the kids into teams and sent them on a treasure hunt throughout the house. We had made up clues in the form of rhymes directing them where to go for their next clue. Boys had one set of clues, girls had another so they were never looking in the same places. At the end they found a bag of gold chocolate coins. They were really tough clues that had them in the backyard, garage, laundry, toy box, etc. It was lots of fun watching them try to decipher the rhymes. There was plenty Guinness for the adults and shamrock cookies for the kids to round out the evening.
