Thanksgiving Idea Three kernels of corn are placed beside each plate.  After the Thanksgiving meal, each person says one thing that they are thankful for and then puts a kernel of corn in a cup that is passed around.  The cup goes around the table three times until everyone has deposited all three kernels. It is fun to hear from each person in the family from all ages to hear what they are thankful for. Passing the cup prompts the next person to speak, and having three kernels gives everyone time to think and name three things.   Later, after dinner and football, activities may include dunking for apples in a large bucket, carving a pumpkin contest (older teens can each have their own small pumpkin and younger children can color theirs with tempera paints) followed by a scavenger hunt for fall/ thanksgiving related items. Signs of Fall Scavenger List: yellow leaf, acorn, hickory nut, November magazine, red dogwood berry, red leaf, faded flower, bird feather, flower bulb. After dark, light a small bonfire or the grill to roast marshmellows and make smores!
