My daughter was born on Thanksgiving weekend and we really struggled to find party ideas for her when she turned 3. We wanted something outdoors but the weather is so unpredictable in October. Wer finally decided on a trip to the local pumpkin patch. The kids got to ride out to the field on a tractor - pulled wagon and choose their own pumpkins. We rode back on the wagon with all of our pumpkins, and bought candy apples and apple cider for the kids before we left. When we returned to the house we had ate cake ( a 3D pumpkin) and ice cream and the kids got to break a pumpkin pinata we had made from a balloon covered with orange tissue paper and a green stem, with the face drawn on with black marker. Since we were doing the pinata indoors and the kids were so small they took turns kicking it across the floor to break it rather than hitting it with a stick and they all had a great time with this method. My daughter loved it so much that we've did the same thing the next year and she wants to do it again this year too!!
