Valentine's Day Party Invitations: For each guest, I bought a box of Sweethearts (a box of heart shaped candy with Valentine's Day themed sayings on them, such as I Love You, Sweetheart, TLC (Tender Loving Care). Then, I printed the information (in pink) and pasted it on the back of the box. I made the paper a little too big so if you looked at the box from the front you would see the excess paper coming out from the back and you would look to see the instructions of the party. I wrote, "Wouldn't you love to come to _______'s House for a Valentine's Day Party? Come to __ ________ _____ at ____ on ______. Your parents can pick you up at _____. Please RSVP by _______ (___-___-____). Then, just hand out the boxes or mail them in padded manilla envelopes, so the candy doesn't crack. Decorations: You should definatly go all out for decorations. Scatter hearts made out of construction paper on tables. Make bigger construction paper hearts and tape them onto walls. Also, punch holes at the top of the heart and hang them on the ceiling or on the back of chairs. Put out any pink or red pillows and rugs. Fill pink or red bowls with special Valentine's Day candy. Get a pink or red tablecloth and pink or red utensils and plates. Make a centerpeice on the table you will be eating at by taking a basket (you can even use Easter baskets) and fill it with pink or red streamers. Put a teddy bear, candy, and paper hearts on top of it. Get small teddy bears from the dollar store, tie a ribbon around his neck, and tie it onto a piece of cardstock with each guests name on it and put it at their seat at the table. Finally, you can put red and pink balloons and streamers in the house. Food: I suggest regular pizza for dinner, regular snacks such as chips and cheese doodles, but also have plenty of candy available. For dessert, I think it would be fun to have kids bake their own cupcakes and let them frost the cupcakes with pink frosting and red and pink sprinkles. I also think you should have some kind of fruity punch. For all of my parties, I make a punch by mixing sherbet, frozen strawberries, Hawaiian Punch, and Ginger Ale. Everybody loves it! Activities: When guests arrive, lead them to a clear jar filled with Hershey's Kisses. Have an adult count how many are in the jar before the party. Give each guest a slip of paper and a pen and have them guess how many are in the jar. Then, put your guess in the basket. At the end of the party, have the same adult that counted the kisses look through the guesses and award the jar to the person who's guess was the closest. You can make the jar look pretty by tying red and pink ribbon around it and glueing construction paper hearts to the jar. Then when the guests are there, you can eat dinner. After that, you should start making the cupcakes. Have an adult monitor the time and take them out when necessary. Now you can play your first game. It's a different version of Tic Tac Toe. Get a piece of white posterboard and draw a Tic Tac Toe board on it. Then, cut out red and pink construction paper hearts before the party to use as pieces. Have one person use the red hearts and the other person can use the pink hearts. Then, just play as you would with regular X's and O's. After that, you can play Hershey Kiss Scavenger Hunt. Hide Hershey Kisses around the house and give guests 15 minutes to look around the house and find them. When the 15 minutes is up, see how many kisses people found. Then, you can eat them! You can also do this game with paper hearts, but just not eat them :). After that, your cupcakes might be done, but you will need to let them cool for a while, so go on to your next game, called Red and Pink Magazine Hunt. Give each guest a magazine and a color, either red or pink. Give them 10-15 minutes to cut out anything in a magazine that is their color, either pink or red. Then, have your guests count them up and whoever has the most, wins! Next, you can play Make-a-Poem. Split up into groups of 2 or 3 and assign each team a person that everyone knows. It can be anyone, from a school principal to a friend to a celebrity. Give them 5 minutes to come up with a 3 verse poem about that person starting with, "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue". Then, they have to recite their poem in front of everybody! When that's over, your cupcakes should be ready to frost. Give everyone an equal amount of cupcakes and sit at a table to decorate them. You can make pink frosting by mixing vanilla frosting with red food coloring. You can also have red or pink gel frosting and red and pink sprinkles. If you want, you can have contests to see who can come up with the weirdest, funniest, and most Valentine's Day themed cupcake! This should be your last activity of your party. Don't forget to give out the jar of kisses before people leave. When they leave, give them their teddy bear from the place mat and a small bag of candy. Have a happy Valentine's Day Party!
