My daughter's birthday is on Valentine's Day, so for her 5th birthday, we decided to have a Valentine Tea. We  invited three girls and had the party at home in our formal living/dining room. I moved our square cocktail table into this room and used four child-sized plastic (lawn) chairs around the table. It was the perfect height for the little ladies. All guests came dressed up.  My friend made little skirts and shawls for each of the girls. As they arrived, they chose one to either wear, or take home as a party favor. My friend also provided several decorated straw hats which the girls loved  wearing.  I used our piano bench as a vanity and here the girls put  on makeup. After the makeup, we had a fashion show. My  husband video taped it and took photos while I announced each child and gave a brief description of what she wore.  They wanted to do this over and over. The girls loved taking turns serving tea (apple juice). I  used a porcelain tea set my daughter received as a gift and a porcelain tea pot that belonged to my mother  (nothing broken!). They were very gentle and lady-like. As an activity (it was cold and raining off and on), I had pink plastic drink cups that I had decorated using paper  doilies. I gave each child a cup along with stickers, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Barbie, etc. and they decorated their cups. The cups were to be used to collect  candy from the piñata. We did manage to go outside and break it -- we put a tarp down on the ground so when the  piñata broke the candy didn't fall on the wet ground. Finally it was time for snacks -- pizza bagels, Goldfish,  ice cream and cake. Their goody bags consisted of Valentine's day candy, a plastic tea set with utensils, a  pencil, an activity pad and some other small items. This was relatively inexpensive to prepare and all the girls, and moms, had a wonderful time.
