My Junior year, my friends and I were all single (except for two) and desperately dreading the upcoming valentines day festivities. We decided that we needed to celebrate the holiday, despite our single status. The night was such a hit, that it became a ritual that we continued through that year and the next, eventually earning the name Search Party for the perfect man although later parties were more informal. INVITATIONS: using word and clip art, I was able to create large movie theater tickets with the part information on them. Each invitation explained that this was rated 'S' for single (the two friends who were involved agreed to be single for the night so they could properly swoon.) It also said that admission was romantic movies of their choice, which guaranteed a large selection of movies for the night. DECORATIONS: We have a basement with a TV, stereo, couches, foosball,a bathroom, and, most importantly, privacy. I did basic cleaning down there then displayed my own collection of romantic movies (owned and rented) on the table, although this was futile, as the stack of movies grew as the girls came. I set out the favors and placed movie theater tubs of popcorn around the room. The room already had party lights hung on the ceiling, giving some light while we watched the movie. ACTIVITIES: As the girls came in, we set all our movies on the table and worked on choosing our movies. We ended up watching A Walk to Remember with low volume as we talked, Mama Mia (with subtitles so we could sing along), the dance scene from Little Miss Sunshine (which we danced to), and Moulin Rouge (although we were unable to finish it due to time.) GAMES: none. As teenagers, our games were swooning over Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge and talking about boys in our school. COSTUMES/FAVORS: As the girl walked in, I gave each a tiara, which we wore all night. While a tiara may seem out of place, we were going for we don't need princes to be princesses." PARTY SNACKS: I found popcorn tubs like the ones they have at movie theaters and made microwave popcorn and put it in the tubs. As it was valentines day we had obligatory candy hearts. CAKE: One of the girls works at Dairy Queen and they had just received a new recipe for ice cream cake. When they attempt new cakes they can not sell their attempt and one of the workers takes it home. Since she was going to a party she was able to take it and even wrote "Still Searching For Mr. Right" in icing. Our cake was not only the first cake of that flavor to be served in Warrensburg Missouri but it was also free. This party was a huge hit and I tried to describe it best I could but the best part about these parties are the things you can't put on paper (or a computer screen.) The giggle of girls as they talk about treacherous dates. The collective sigh as Ewan hits the crescendo of the really romantic song. The attempts at following the dance moves of a well choreographed musical. So don't follow my instruction step by step. personalize it make it yours and be spontaneous. "
