I just planned the Valentine party for my son's pre-school class.  As the party began, I told the kids that we were going on a "Follow Your Heart" scavenger hunt.  I had made 4 large hearts from poster board and wrote a poem explaining what the kids had to do at each heart.  My son's preschool is at a church so I placed hearts around the church for them to find. The kids ran around looking for the hearts and then I read the poem to tell them what they had to do before they moved on.  At the first heart, they had to do the hokey-pokey. The second heart gave instructions for a game.  I had made a large heart with each child's name on it and placed them on the floor at the end of a long hallway.  I had the kids to form two lines and do a relay where they ran down, found their heart, picked it up and came back to the end of the line.  The first team to finish was the winner.  The third heart also gave instructions for a game. I had made small hearts for each child and had put different animal stickers on the hearts. I put the same stickers on two hearts. I had the kids to form a circle and shut their eyes with their hands behind their back. I put a heart in each child's hand and when they opened their eyes, they had to find the other child with the same animal sticker as them. The fourth heart instructed the kids to the chicken dance. For the hokey-pokey and the chicken dance, I used a party CD and placed small CD players at each area. While we had been doing the scavenger hunt, the other mothers had been busy transforming the room for the party. We just used a paper valentines table cloth and I had gotten a helium balloons blown up (one for each child to take home) and had made two balloon bouquets using mylar covered anchors for the table. We used red plates and napkins and I had taken several baskets from home that we used to put different things in (candy, napkins, goodie bags) and I spruced them up with some Valentine curling ribbon.  Before the kids came back to the room, I told them that we were going to have lunch at a fancy, fancy restaurant. I told them that the boys had to wear ties and the girls had to wear hats. My husband had pre-tied enough old ties for all of the boys and just slipped them over their heads and tightened them. I had borrowed enough hats for all of the girls. I also told them that when we got to the restaurant, the "gentleman" had to pull out the chairs for the "ladies". Outside of the classroom, I had made a poster that had a cupid and hearts on it and the top of it read: Mama Mia's Fancy Fancy Restaurant.  I had made a "menu" out of card stock with pictures of the food that we would be eating.  We served pizza, cupcakes and drink boxes.  The kids loved it and I overheard many of them saying that they wanted to come back to this "restaurant" again.  The girls were having a good time discussing which boy pulled out their chairs for them. After they ate, they passed out their valentines and put them in the boxes that they had made earlier in the week during craft time.  At this time, the teacher also handed out a small gift to each child and a personalized valentine that I had made prior to the party.  I had the teacher to write something special or unique about each child and I used my card making software to make valentines with those messages on them.  I used a hole puncher to make two holes in the top and laced in valentines curling ribbon for a decorative accent. When it was time to go, each child took home their box of valentines, 3 goodies bags (several parents had the same idea) and a balloon.  The kids loved it and so did the Mom's and teachers.
